Threads of Scripture

Hundreds of thousands of fine arcs rising over a line of verses, in gold, crimson, parchment and blue.

Pinch to zoom in and see the picture more closely.

Every verse of the Bible sits on one line, from Genesis on the left to Revelation on the right. Each arc joins two verses that a cross reference links together.

The sum of thy word is truth; And every one of thy righteous ordinances endureth for ever.Psalm 119:160 (ASV)

How this picture was made

The links

A list of 344,799 cross references from OpenBible.info. A cross reference is a note that one verse is related to another. People suggested these links, and readers voted on them. They are human judgements, not part of the Bible.

How it was drawn

The 31,102 verses sit in Tanakh order: Torah, Prophets, Writings, then the New Testament. Each link is one arc. 344,798 arcs are drawn. One link was left out because 3 John 1:15 is not a verse in the King James numbering. Each arc takes the colour of the section where its left end starts. Where many arcs cross, the light builds up and mixes their colours.

What it shows

What it does not show

It does not say how two verses are related, or whether a link is strong or weak. Every link is drawn the same.
